pokerroom – Showing Hands

pokerroom.com – Showing a hand after your opponent has folded can often be seen as a way to give free information away and as such, a bad idea.

My personal view is that, although it does give free information away, you have the opportunity to be selective about which information you decide to give, and this can mean manipulating your table image in the eyes of your foes.

PLAY NOW

If for example, you bluff someone out of a pot, showing that you did so can often cause them to think you are a player who likes to bluff often. You must be aware that many players are wise to this though, and will expect you to then have a real hand next time. With this in mind, you may be better off showing two or three bluffs just to make them think that you will continue to bluff them as often as you can.

Sooner or later they are bound to take the bait and call you down with a relatively weak poker hand, but timing is everything, as you need to make sure that this is the hand where you have something strong.

Players often make the mistake in poker of showing a hand simply because they feel they made a great fold, or had a very strong hand, and you should try not to feel compelled to do this. Although it might make you look good, it is giving away free information without strategic reasoning behind why, and this can often be counter productive.
